In the Kitchen

I've been working on a series of illustrative kitchen characters for the last little bit. Slowly they are becoming prints... some more finished than others, but I wanted to post a couple bits of what I'm working on.

Both of these are soft-ground etchings and then I've been incorporating aquatint to enhance some of the mid-range tones. I may also introduce spit bite to give a little bit more atmosphere.

Anyways, here they are as they exist currently...

Sneak Peek

Here's a quick sneak peek at this year's HGS exchange print. I'm still fine-tuning the colours and the ink saturations... also looking at involving gradient blends instead of solid colours. At the very least it's a little gander at what i've been working on the past week

HGS 2010 First Preps

I just wanted to post a quick picture of this beautiful piece of wood that is all primed to be cut to bits in the next couple weeks as I get ready for this year's HGS moku hanga exchange in Japan. It has been sanded and treated with a few coats of gommalacca (shellac) and is a beauty in waiting!

Back for 2010

Ok, so it's been a little while!

After 6 months of travel I now have a new home in Italy where I'm studying print full time for the next year. That said, I have already been hard at it in the new year with lots of great new stuff I'm learning. Here is one of the first things off the press this year. It's my first dabble into etching... a bit of stray from woodcut, but I'll be doing this kind of straying quite a bit as I cover almost all print techniques this year.

Also I'm getting prepped for this year's HGS exchange so there should be some good posts to come regarding my prints that will journey to Japan. Stay tuned!
